Thanks again to everyone who's taken the time to enjoy my work, leave me feedback, put up with a million questions that must seem obvious, and especially to those who have occasionally featured my work
It's been an incredible experience so far, and hopefully, it's just the beginning. It's my dream to be able to look back and go "wow, I remember when 4,000 views was HUGE to me!
" -- but isn't that all of our dreams?
To mark the occasion I'm going to try my hand at a feature of some of the people who have put up with the brunt of my growing process. This is off the top of my head, so if I forget someone, please don't fret -- I won't forget you for long!
The first person that comes to mind is
beself, the first deviant ever to put me on their watchlist. We traded feedback fairly regularly at first, and he has always been sweetly honest.
Next up is the incomparable
dragonphenx, who I met in a photography chatroom and befriended quickly. She has helped me grow as both a photographer and as a human, and has been in the front row of cheerleaders for my success. I hope I have been able to give the support and good juju to her that she has shared with me.
It wouldn't be a tribute to my influences without
smokinjay. Despite being on the other end of the world, he has clocked countless hours reviewing my photos, offering career and equipment advice, and generally being an awesome friend. I'm proud to tell other people about my mentor in China.
I do have two influences that are not dA subscribers. One is my other mentor, Dan Nash. He's a Seattle-area photographer who I used to model for before moving to the east coast. He's answered emails from me with enthusiasm, merrily perused my portfolio and offered his comments, and generally dumped his brain onto the sidewalk every time I so much as hint that I need information.
You're the best, da3n.
The second is, of course, the muse -- without whom I would never have thought to point a camera at a musician. While I have definitely grown this venture on my own and the work and credit go to my strength, his presence and inspiration nonetheless have woven themselves into everything I do.
I could go on, but I want y'all to have time to visit these galleries and enjoy the work that's inspired me. So go get inspirated! Or something!
